Saving Banksy Is More Than Just A Documentary
The “Haight Street Rat” was recently featured on (and is the subject of) the critically acclaimed documentary “Saving Banksy” which first aired on Netflix (5 star-rating) in June. The film is directed by Colin M. Day and is a great introduction for those not familiar with the art scene as it explores the touchy subject of removing street art from its original location and the outrageous prices some collectors are willing to pay in-order to obtain one of these rare paintings for their collection… “Saving Banksy” also features appearances by famous street artists like “Ben Eine“, “Risk“, “Revok” and the godfather of stencil art “Blek Le Rat“.
What can you expect ?
Last year, Banksy’s controversial painting crossed the border for the very first time and was displayed at Wolfhead Distillery in Windsor-Essex County… Saving Banksy Canada 2017 offered guests a 360-degree immersive art experience that featured Live Art Battles, Celebrity Dj’s and over 100 pieces of art from more than 20 local artists, the youngest of which is eleven years old.
The art activation was originally scheduled for 3 Days (November 14-16 2017) however due to popular demand, the installation was extended (for an additional 2 weeks) until December 1st 2017.
The “Haight Street Rat” returned to Canada June 6th-11th 2018 for Saving Banksy Toronto. The exhibit took place at Yorkville Village and featured artwork by L.A. graffiti icon RISK and additional works by: kevkav, Dani Cooperman, Anthony Ricciardi, Hello Kirsten and Alexander Bacon.
Where Is The Painting Now?
Unable to find a permanent home for the painting, the owner has agreed to let the painting go on tour providing the following two requirements are met:
- The exhibit must be free to the public
- The exhibit must promote the value of graffiti
